INSTITUTIONAL OVERVIEW
The Lab, on the record.
RomanceLab is a research institution for a phenomenon we have studied for years and never gotten over. We speak as "we" because when the Lab is moved, an entire building is moved.
What we do here
Two things. The public research division publishes free, structured experiments for two people – Protocols to run over dinner, Assays that measure what a bond is made of, Field Notes issued on observations you submit. Free, forever. Science shouldn't be paywalled.
The synthesis division is another matter. It produces compounds – finished, original songs about a specific person, built from reagents only you could supply. You co-write every lyric; a person produces every track; you choose the take that gets released. It costs money because craft does.
The stance: no standard model
In our field there's an assumed default – romantic, exclusive, marriage-bound, matching the templates on the greeting cards. The Lab's position, held as a scientific matter rather than a slogan, is that there is no standard model of connection. The instrument doesn't privilege one configuration. A wedding vow and a song for your best friend of fourteen years read identically to us: two people who chose each other, and keep choosing.
In practice this means every formulation works for a queerplatonic partnership, an aromantic bond, a poly household, a decades-married couple, or two friends who never needed a word for it – as first-class inputs, not accommodations. If you've ever filled out a form that assumed who you must be to each other, you know why we mention it. Ours won't.
Why the lab coat
Because everyone else in this business is soft-focus and rose-gold, apologizing for how sincere they are. We'd rather observe carefully, write precisely, and let the warmth leak through the clinical instead of announcing it. Precision is how we show we care: the diner, the third date, the dog's name. Attention is the love language. The rest is instrumentation.
Occasionally the instruments pick up something that stops the whole room: two piles of biology found each other in an indifferent universe and decided to stay. We log it and get back to work. Mostly.
On the machinery, honestly
The lyric-craft sessions run on AI, with you steering every line. The recordings are produced with professional AI music tools under commercial license, by a person who listens before you do. We disclose this everywhere, plainly, because a love song built on a hidden asterisk isn't one. Your stories are encrypted at rest, never reused in our marketing, and deletable on request – the details live in the privacy policy, written in actual English.
